11th May 2025: HXR and Plant-based Health Professionals run family-friendly food system activities at Natural History Museum

On 11th May, London members of Health for XR and Plant-based Health Professionals joined several other Extinction Rebellion groups in running ran a family friendly outreach activity at the Natural History Museum , with the aim of helping people understand our current food systems and the impact of what we eat on the planet and our health.
We engaged families with a selection of games including:
- Match the food to the carbon footprint
- Compare carbon footprint, nutritional value and price of plant-based versus meat dishes
- UK land use puzzle
- Guess the weight of different groups of mammals on earth

It was a great opportunity to interact with adults and children from all over the world visiting the museum and to highlight the many benefits of a whole foods plant-based diet. We had so many positive conversations around food including a chef passionate about including more delicious plant-based options in his restaurant, an 11 year old girl who stopped eating animals four years ago and is now doing her best to influence her friends and family, and a human rights activist keen to support access to healthy plant-based food in deprived areas to reduce health inequalities.
The was an overwhelmingly positive reception from the public and hopefully several minds were moved to make the right food choices in the future to protect people, animals and our planet.

If you think, in order to protect planetary and human health, the UK Government should promote plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, and legumes, and end support for campaigns promoting meat and dairy, then please sign this petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/710663
