24th Sept 2025: HXR members challenge GMC leniency of doctors guilty of sexual predation while peaceful climate protesters face long suspensions

In a letter published in the Guardian, HXR members highlight the need for urgent reforms to GMC and Doctors’ tribunal processes. This follows the news that doctors who had been found guilty of rape and sexual predation were being allowed to return to work, in sharp contrast with those participating in peaceful climate protest to protect the public from the accelerating harms of the climate emergency, who are facing long suspensions. The letter highlights changes that are needed to tribunals, including developing objective criteria (in place of current subjective ones such as “showing remorse”) and training of panel and GMC members in the climate emergency.
