26th April 2025: HXR and XR scientists march in solidarity with JSO on their final action

Today, as JSO “hang up their high Vis” HXR members, along with XR scientists, joined in solidarity with hundreds of JSO members and supporters as they marched through London on one final day of action.

The march, from St James’s Park to Parliament Square to the Royal Courts of Justice, ended symbolically outside the Shell Building. Powerful and moving speeches highlighted the terrible climate and health harms that continue to be perpetrated by fossil fuel companies such as Shell and BP, and the failure of our government to take the necessary actions to protect us, their citizens, from accelerating global heating.

The march honoured all those people who have taken action with Just Stop Oil since 2022 and particularly those who have been incarcerated as political prisoners for doing everything they could to prevent climate catastrophe. This includes doctors Sarah Benn, Diana Warner and Pat Hart. Eleven still remain in prison.

A large banner reading “Resistance Works” reminded everyone that Just Stop Oil’s initial demand to end new oil and gas is now government policy, making them one of the most successful civil resistance campaigns in recent history.
