27th Sept 2026: HXR members oppose genocide and the proscription of Palestine Action outside Labour party conference

On 27th September, health workers again formed a medical block to support the Defend our Juries Palestine Action de-proscription protests outside the Labour party conference yesterday. All were eventually arrested after sitting with over 200 other sign holders for over 7 hours.

The protest, which began at 1pm, saw police allow multiple protestors to leave the protest despite holding their “terrorising” signs of support for Palestine Action for many hours. Eventually, at 5am the police abandoned any pretence at applying the proscription of Palestine Action in a consistent manner when they abandoned the last couple of handfuls of protestors entirely.

While the British state continues to arrest its citizens in their thousands for opposing the draconian proscription of the civil disobedience group Palestine Action, its military and political support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues, despite the welcome, but wholly insufficient, sanctions recently announced on West Bank settlements.

Dr Alice Clack who took part in the protest said:

“The decision to again arrest peaceful sign holders yesterday was extremely disappointing and represents a missed opportunity to begin to reverse the assault on protest rights in the UK. I am disgusted that my government, through its political and logistical support of Israel, is complicit in the ongoing Genocide against the Palestinian people and the deliberate targeting of health facilities and health-workers in Gaza”.

A spokesperson for Defend our Juries said:

“Inside the Labour Party Conference today, Ed Miliband will tell campaigners and party members that they were right to build political pressure over Gaza with their protests [2].

“The hypocrisy is breathtaking. If he means what he says, why are those taking a principled stand against genocide still being arrested as terrorists? Why is Elbit Systems, the largest supplier of genocidal weaponry still able to operate from the UK with impunity?
