26th July 2025: Plymouth banner drop highlights climate risks to health

On Saturday 26th July, South West climate groups held banner drops in SE Cornwall (two), Plymouth (three) and North Devon (one) focused on the climate emergency. These were designed to greet people travelling to the coast for their summer holidays. One of the Plymouth bridges displayed HXR’s 3 banners “End Fossil Fuels”, “Protect public Health”, Save Lives” with the aim of highlighting the health risks of the climate emergency.

The banner drops were organised and attended by local climate groups, HXR members, concerned health workers and community members, who waved to passengers from the bridges. An estimated 16000 cars passed under the bridges during the four hour period. Although there were some negative responses there were about 6 times as many positive responses, in the form of hoots and hand signals.
