July-August 2024: HXR members support Bank Better’s campaign asking the National Trust to drop Barclays

Individuals and groups including HXR members, many of whom are National Trust members, have taken part in actions at properties across the country to convince the National Trust to end their relationship with Barclays Bank, the bigget fossil fuel funder in Europe. By funding fossil fuel companies, Barclays finances the destruction of the very environments that the National Trust strives to protect.

HXR members were involved in actions at Tatton Park Cheshire, Mottisfont Hampshire, Cotehele Cornwall, Box Hill in Surrey, Glibside Tyne & Wear, Culross Palace Fife, Speke Hall Liverpool, Lyme Park Cheshire and Saltram House, Devon

The main theme of these actions is “I love the National Trust, not Barclays”. Groups used a range of creative ways to involve the public, who nearly all agreed that banking with Barclays damages our world and strongly conflicts with the aims of the National Trust. The action also got visitors thinking about their own banking choices and changing to a more ethical bank

Health for XR members are also working with Bank Better to encourage health-related organisations to move their accounts away from banks. They are currently engaging with organisations including the British Medical Association (BMA), the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Royal Free Hospital of London, Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych), Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) as well as GP practices.
